Straight Out of Brisbane is a festival independent and emerging arts, culture and ideas. It's on again this 2nd to 7th December, in locations in and around Brisbane's Fortitude Valley.

SOOB is dedicated to excavating the best in Brisbane's independent cultural

By independent we mean art and culture that is not produced for
profit, is created outside of the framework of multinational corporate enterprise
or large-scale government-funded arts organisations, is promoting and fostering
DIY aesthetics or is excluded from mainstream public debate.

In 2002, its first year, Straight Out of Brisbane featured more than 300 local and inter-state artists, speakers and performers, in a program of over 100 talks, panels, exhibitions, workshops and gigs.

An estimated 3,000 punters enjoyed a diverse array of underground culture that included events as diverse as electronic cabaret, prank workshops, noise toy construction classes, Queensland's best zine fair, an obligatory warehouse party, and even a few artists' talks and exhibitions.

Brisbane-based Molly Hankwitz and David Cox are Archimedia—a research collaboration investigating the interplay and overlap between media, architecture and public space. Lost Cities is a thought provoking journey through some of their investigations using a lecture and multimedia presentation format.

Archimedia looks forward to participating in the 2003 SOOB events.

We have new talks & presentations which we are also staging at the powerhouse:

What up guys?
> We are a group of film-makers (Brizzy based) who are looking at
> making a documentary, promoting the Brizbane hip-hop scene. Maybe
> you seen some posters up at the record stores and around town -
> If you haven't - don't matter cos that's why I'm e-mailing you now.
> Primary focus would be set on a specific artist (or artists).
> Secondary focus would be the reprezentation of the whole Brizbane
> scene as a vital component to the Aussie hip-hop movement.
> We believe that Brizbane has a lot to offer in the way of raw yet
> exceptional talent. We also believe Brizbane does not do enough to
> promote this talent and get it on the map where it belongs. A
> project like this has the potential to blow up the hip-hop scene and
> get our people recognized.
> Initially we would market this project to a National audience, but
> it has definate potential to go International.
> Your support in this project would give it that extra bump it
> needs. Please, hit us back with your support, ideas, contacts...
> Anything would be cool.
> peace,
> hiphopdoc - reprazenting for the whole BZ crew
